Incoterms & Shipping

What are Incoterms?

Incoterms International Commercial Terms are a set of globally recognised rules that define the responsibilities of buyers and sellers in international trade. Published by the International Chamber of Commerce, they determine who pays for shipping, insurance and customs clearance, and at which point the risk transfers from the seller to the buyer.

At Nexus Imex, we work with all major Incoterms and guide our buyers through the right choice based on their country, product type and logistics setup.

Common Incoterms we work with

EXW — Ex Works The buyer takes full responsibility from the seller's premises. Lowest risk for the seller. The buyer arranges all transport, customs and insurance.

FOB — Free On Board One of the most commonly used terms in export. Nexus Imex covers all costs and risk until the goods are loaded onto the vessel at the port of origin. Risk then transfers to the buyer.

CIF — Cost, Insurance and Freight Nexus Imex covers the cost of goods, marine insurance and freight to the destination port. The buyer takes responsibility once goods arrive at the destination port.

Shipping modes

Sea Freight FCL and LCL The most cost effective mode for bulk shipments. We handle Full Container Load (FCL) for large orders and Less than Container Load (LCL) for smaller consolidated shipments. Transit times vary by destination typically 10 to 35 days from Indian ports.

Air Freight For urgent or high value shipments, air freight offers the fastest delivery option. We arrange air cargo from major Indian airports including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Ahmedabad to destinations worldwide. Transit typically 2 to 7 days.

Multimodal Transport For landlocked destinations or complex routes, we arrange multimodal shipments combining sea, air and road transport

Estimated transit times

  • Middle East 5 to 12 days by sea
  •  Africa (East) 10 to 18 days by sea
  • Africa (West)  20 to 28 days by sea
  • Southeast Asia 8 to 15 days by sea
  • Europe 18 to 28 days by sea
  • North America 22 to 35 days by sea

All transit times are estimates and depend on port of loading, shipping line schedules and destination port conditions. Air freight available for all destinations within 2 to 7 days.

Export documentation

Every Nexus Imex shipment comes with complete export documentation handled by our team. Standard documents include:

  •  Commercial Invoice
  •  Packing List
  •  Bill of Lading or Airway Bill
  •  Certificate of Origin
  •  Phytosanitary Certificate (food and agri)
  •  Quality Inspection Certificate
  •  Insurance Certificate (CIF and DDP terms)

Additional destination-specific documents such as halal certificates, health certificates or fumigation certificates are arranged on request. We ensure full compliance with importing country requirements before every shipment.

Why choosing the right terms matters

The wrong Incoterm can cost you significantly in unexpected freight charges, customs delays or insurance gaps. Many importers  especially those new to sourcing from India  underestimate the complexity of international shipping documentation and compliance.

Nexus Imex takes this burden off your hands. We advise you on the right shipping terms for your situation, handle all documentation, coordinate with freight forwarders and customs agents, and keep you updated at every stage of the shipment.

You focus on your business. We handle the logistics.
